Horizon Education Centers is proud to announce that the Lorain Community Center received a 5-Star quality rating from the State of Ohio's "Step Up To Quality" Child Care Rating System, the highest rating a center can receive.
The Lorain Community Center is located within the Constellation-Lorain Community School. It is under the direction of Heather LaMore, who has been with Horizon since 2015.
What Is Step Up To Quality?
The Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services manage Step Up To Quality. It’s a tiered quality rating and improvement system. SUTQ honors and encourages learning and development programs that meet or exceed licensing health and safety norms in terms of quality.
Horizon And Lorain Community Partnership
Horizon Education Centers' partnership with Constellation-Lorain Community School dates to 2013, with the development of the afterschool program. It was made possible by the Ohio Department of Education's 21st Century Learning Grant. Horizon then built on the success of the afterschool program, adding a preschool program in 2019.
The goal of the preschool program is to provide a high-quality kindergarten-readiness curriculum to all enrolled children.
Studies show children who participate in after-school programs benefit from increased academic performance, less emotional and behavioral issues, more physical activity, and the formation of healthy learning habits.
"Horizon attempts to provide high-quality care and education for children 6 weeks to 12 years old," says Horizon's Executive Director Dave Smith. “We are honored to be a top-rated program in Lorain. Under Ohio's Step Up To Quality Rating System, all twelve Horizon Education Centers have received a high rating. This grade guarantees that your child will have qualified teachers, a proven curriculum, family interaction, developmental assessments, and electronic access to their unique learning."
All Horizon Centers Highly Rated
With the addition of Lorain Community, 9 out of Horizon’s 13 centers have earned a 5-Star Rating. The list includes Berea, Cascade - Elyria, East Lorain, Elyria-Dewhurst, Lakewood, South Elyria, Southside Lorain, Triskett Station, and now Lorain Community. The remaining three centers (Market Square, North Olmsted, Old Brooklyn) boast 4-star ratings.
Congratulations on a wonderful achievement!
