Horizon Program at Lorain Community

In downtown Lorain, our Lorain Community Center, distinguished by earning the highest quality Gold Rating from the State of Ohio's "Step Up to Quality Program," offers after-school care for those children that attend the Community School. Children benefit from homework assistance, STEM activities, and social development skills, enriching their learning experience.

Our Lorain Community Child Care center hours of operation are from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. and 3:05 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Center Director

EDUCATION: Youngstown University BS Social Work, Southeastern Business College 2 yr degree in Business administration with major in law administration, Lorain County Community College 2 yr degree in Art, Lorain County Community College certificate in Computer Maintenance and Networking.

ABOUT: After working in a local Hospital for 21 years decided to retire and made the decision to shift my focus to working with kids which is deeply personal and rooted in a desire to make a positive impact in their lives. I am also a party planner in my spare time and have been doing parties for the last 15 years. I just love making things with my hands. Some items include pinatas, engraving crystals, party shirts, to key chains and lanyards, and anything that can be personalized. I also have a passion for balloon art. I was recently contacted by Voyage Ohio Magazine to do an interview to share my story. I am also a proud veteran of the United States Army.

ABOUT: Ms. Torres has been working for Horizon since 2021. She is proud to not only work at Horizon, but to have her child attend as well. She enjoys building relationships with the children in her care, providing them with a fun and safe environment to be themselves and learn.
