Explore Financial Aid

Explore a variety of financial aid options, including scholarships, state-funded programs, and income-based assistance, to make quality education accessible to all.

Family Income-Based Help

Horizon offers financial aid based on family incomes up to 400% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPG). The FPG is published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Scholarship Aid

Horizon offers scholarship aid for families up to 400% FPG or a family of four (4) with an annual income of $95,400 or below (based on 2014). Families receive aid in the form of a discount. Funds for this program are provided through grants, donations and government sources. To qualify, your family must be at or below 400% FPG, sign an enrollment agreement, and be enrolled five days per week. Complete the application at the time of enrollment or contact your center director.

Mary Smith Scholarship

Horizon provides quality on-campus programs to enrich, challenge and keep students learning all summer long. Additionally, Horizon offers supplies, field trips and off-campus experiences each week that not all families can afford. The Horizon Board of Trustees has set up the Mary Smith Scholarship Fund to provide for these experiences.

Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit

Most working families are eligible for an annual tax-credit on their Federal Income taxes for up to $3,000 for your first child or $6,000 for two or more children. This is a tax credit NOT a deduction. The tax credit can offset taxes you have paid or owe. See IRS Publication 503 for more information. Horizon can provide you with a year end childcare expense report to help you claim your tax-credit.

Publicly Funded Child Care Program

This program provides child care for working families at or below 150% FPG to enter the program and remain until they reach 200% FPG, or a family of four (4) with an annual income of $33,075 or less and remain until they reach 200% FPG. It covers the majority of childcare tuition, minus a co-pay. This Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services Program is administered through the Lorain County Department of Jobs and Family Services at 440-323-5726 and Cuyahoga County Health and Human Services at 216-987-6640. For more information on who is eligible to receive payment assistance, see this resource. For more information on federal poverty guidelines, see this resource.
