Our South Elyria Center is conveniently located near Elyria High School. It has earned the highest quality Gold Rating from the State of Ohio's "Step Up to Quality Program." This location offers year-round programming for students 18 months to 14 years of age and a safe supportive environment for children.

Our South Elyria Child Care center hours of operation are from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Program Highlights

Our South Elyria Center is a Head Start Collaboration. A 21st-Century grant offers free before and after school care for Hamilton students. TANF tutoring is offered as a free program, and free half-day preschool is available.

Students can participate on the Jaguars basketball team and the cheerleading team year-round. There are also year-round clubs for STEM, gardening, cooking and more. Football is available in the summer.

Other perks include a Parent Cafe and monthly themed family nights that include dinner.

Business Coordinator

EDUCATION: Associates Degree in Applied Business Office Administration - Ohio Business College

ABOUT: Born and raised in Lorain Ohio. I have two beautiful girls and a soon-to-be husband(Sept 2023)! I have worked with Horizon as a Preschool teacher Assistant and I am now the new Business Coordinator at South Elyria. I enjoy meeting new people and being a part of seeing the kids grow day by day.

Jalil Ross

Center Director

EDUCATION B.A in Human Development and Family Sciences with a Minor in Integrative Approaches to Health and Wellness from The Ohio State University

ABOUT Mr. Ross has worked with the youth for the past 10 years, from Head Start to 8th grade. His first job was at an after-school program as a Youth Development Professional with the Boys and Girls Club. He also worked as a School-Age float in the summer of 2017 for Horizon Education Centers. After college, he gained experience in customer service and office management, and now has rejoined Horizon to help serve the community in a new capacity. He is excited to provide quality care and education. His goal is to create a safe space with engaging experiences for all! He believes each child belongs to all of us and they will bring us a tomorrow in direct relation to the responsibility we have shown them.

With seven years of experience in early childhood education, I have a deep passion for working with children and creating a positive, nurturing environment. I currently obtain my Child Development Associate in Preschool and am also currently enrolled at LCCC majoring in Early Childhood Education. I have been here at South Elyria for about 3 years and am so excited to see what the future holds!

ABOUT: Hello, my name is Ms. Maddie and I have been the lead toddler teacher here at South Elyria for the past 4 years. I have completed my child development associate credential in infant/toddlers and am currently enrolled at LCCC to obtain my associates in early childhood education. I also have 3 busy kids of my own, we are always on the go with sports, school and daycare events. I look forward to meeting you and your kiddos!

ABOUT: Hello, my name is Laura Griffin. I started working with south elyria horizon in December of 2024.I started off as a floater and worked my way up to becoming a school age lead. I enyoy working with the older students as I get to learn new things as well with the students.

ABOUT: Hello, my name is Patty Wilkins and I am a Lead Teacher at the Southside Horizon Center. I currently will be re-enrolling in Lccc's University Partnership program in early childhood education to finish my bachelors. Working with children has always been a great passion of mine and I am happy to be here at Horizon to continue that passion.
