Cascade Elyria Center

The Cascade location, one of Horizon Education Centers' six in Lorain County, near Elyria's John F. Kennedy Memorial Parkway, holds a Five-Star Rating from Ohio's "Step Up To Quality" Program. It offers free preschool scholarships, a gym, and care for infants and toddlers, ensuring a top-tier educational setting for children.

Our Cascade Child Care Center hours of operation are from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Program Highlights

We develop language and literacy, as well as social, emotional and physical skills. Our staff members guide their students with various teaching methods that are based on recommendations from the state of Ohio, including:

  • State Standards
  • State Assessments
  • Individual Learning Plans

Horizon Education Centers focuses on kindergarten readiness and school-age enrichment, and we're a proud partner of the Ohio Healthy Programs, which ensures your children have healthy food options daily. 

Each of our centers has a toddler playground area, preschool playground area and school-age playground area.

Kait Welsandt

Center Director

EDUCATION Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Heidelberg University

ABOUT Kait started with Horizon as an AmeriCorps member in 2016, working as a Family and Community Engagement Coordinator. After a year, she transitioned into the SAC Lead role at Southside until 2020. Prior to becoming the Cascade Center Director, she spent two years as a 21st Century Site Coordinator in Cleveland for after school programs.

Alyson DeMuth

Site Coordinator
EDUCATION Associate of Arts from Northwest State Community College, Bachelor of Arts from Bowling Green State University
 
ABOUT Mrs. DeMuth is pursuing a career as an educational administrator and a toddler teacher. She lives in Cleveland and enjoys spending time with her husband and kids, Jack, and Lily. She's excited to help my students succeed this year! 

Renee Holbert

Business Coordinator
EDUCATION: CDA credentialed, currently attending Grand Canyon University

ABOUT: Renee Holbert has been with Horizon for 10 years, and has been involved in education for nearly 20. She enjoys working with the children and their families, watching the joy and excitement the children have as they grow and learn. She is excited for her new journey toward teacher qualification, being able to help parents and children alike. 

Anna Chavalia

Lead School Age Teacher

EDUCATION High school diploma, some college courses and  OCCRA training 

ABOUT Ms. Anna has worked at Horizon for five years. She worked with preschoolers before transitioning to teaching school-age children. She loves the impact that she can have on children and their education. 

Sarah Naylor

Infant Lead Teacher

EDUCATION: Child Development Associate Certification - Birth through 3 years old

ABOUT: Sarah has worked with Horizon for eight years, starting at our afterschool in Elyria. She served as an AmeriCorps member for three years, and worked as a teacher for two years with our middle school collaborative Southside Pride. Sarah obtained her Child Development Associate certification and is now our infant lead teacher effective February 2023.

Tori Costello

Preschool Lead Teacher

EDUCATION: Associates of Arts Degree from LCCC

ABOUT: Tori has worked in childcare for over three years. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Grand Canyon University and enjoys doing outdoor and cooking activities with her students.
