Horizon Program at Clara E. Westropp

The afterschool program at Clara E. Westropp offers children a rich learning and fun environment, conveniently accessible from I-71 or I-480. Our staff supports homework and enriches students' experiences with hands-on experiments, social skills development, and STEM activities, fostering both academic and personal growth.

Our Clara E. Westropp center hours of operation are from 2:05 p.m. to 5:05 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Debbie Balch

Site Coordinator
Hello! I am Deborah Balch “Ms. Deb” and I am the Site Coordinator for the HEC Afterschool program at Clara E. Westropp. I have been working in the teaching field for about 15 years. During that time, I have worked with many children dealing with disabilities, especially Autism. In addition I previously worked for about 15 years with adults with disabilities.

I find working with children to be challenging but also very rewarding. In the state of our current society, children have a lot “stacked against them”. They are dealing with challenges that we, as adults did not have to face as we were growing up.. I feel that it truly takes a village to raise a child and I am very happy being apart of those villages.

In my free time, I enjoy going to Cleveland Monsters Hockey games. Additionally, I am an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. My “down time” is used to spend time with the significant people in my life as well as my “fur babies”.

I am a dedicated and passionate educator currently in my 31st year of teaching, with 29 of those years proudly spent serving the Cleveland community. Throughout my career, I have committed myself to helping students grow academically, socially, and emotionally, always striving to create a supportive and engaging classroom environment. Teaching has been more than a profession for me—it has been a calling, and I take great pride in watching my students build confidence, discover new interests, and reach their goals.

Outside of the classroom, I cherish the time I get to spend with my family, who are my greatest joy and support. I also enjoy relaxing with my two Yorkies, whose playful energy always brightens my day. Balancing my love for teaching with my love for family has shaped who I am, both personally and professionally.

My name is Yamaris Lozada but they call me Miss Yaya. I love my job working and playing with the kids. I have a seven year old son that I enjoy seeing him grow. I love hugging every child because I don't know if they get it. Asking them how there day is and showing they mean something. I love to share all the love I have and make a difference if I can. Cost nothing to spread love and show an example.

Lindsay Hiller

Tutor
Hi! I am Lindsay Hiller a tutor at Clara Westropp. This is my 20th year teaching and my 13th year at Clara Westropp. I love working for Horizon because I am able to build bonds with students that I normally don't have throughout the day. I am a single mom to a beautiful little girl who also attends Clara Westropp and enjoys coming to Horizon after school.

I have over five years of experience working with children in educational and enrichment settings. For the past three years, I have been part of the Horizons team, where I’ve had the opportunity to support students’ growth both academically and personally. So far during my time with Horizons, I’ve been honored to receive both Employee of the Month and Teacher of the Year, recognitions that reflect my commitment to creating a positive, engaging learning environment.

Before joining Horizons, I worked with the YMCA, where I was proud to be recognized as a Cultural Champion for promoting inclusivity, community, and meaningful connections among students and staff. Across all my roles, I strive to make every child feel supported, valued, and inspired to reach their full potential.

Charity Rosenjack

Hi, I’m Charity Rosenjack, and I’ll be serving as the second in command at Clara E. Westropp. I live in the Westpark area with my two cats, and I studied Psychology and Family Studies at Baldwin Wallace University. I’ve been working with students for six years and have previously worked at Horizon and Clara E. Westropp. I’m so excited to be back and looking forward to a great year!
