During the colder months, it’s easy for children (and, let’s face it, for adults!) to feel cooped up. Fortunately, there’s plenty of Northeast Ohio family fun to enjoy even when snow is all around. Here’s one itinerary to consider!

Northeast Ohio Family Fun Built for the Cold

If you don’t mind a breakfast with more sugar than usual as a special treat, consider Jack Frost Donuts: perhaps a banana split chocolate cream donut or a frosted one with Apple Jacks cereal and cups of hot cocoa.

Afterward, head to the Children’s Museum of Cleveland. Your children can use their imaginations to the fullest extent in Adventure City as they pretend to build structures of their choice, shop at a farmer’s market, or head to the auto shop. Future scientists will appreciate opportunities to learn and explore at the Wonder Lab while artists can use their talents in the Arts & Parts exhibit.

If the weather cooperates, you can hike along the trails in the Cleveland Metroparks or sled at Edgewater Park. When you get home after this busy day, your family could bake one of these healthy cookie recipes (or, you could make these the night before so that, when you get home from your full day, you can have them ready). End your day with a favorite movie and a snack.

If you want to mix up this day of Northeast Ohio family fun, ThisisCleveland.com and ClevelandTraveler.com both offer plenty of engaging ideas.

An Itinerary for When the Weather Warms Up

When the weather gets warmer, the Cleveland area has plenty of farmers markets where you can pick up fresh snacks to start your day—and as part of the picnic and fun in the sun you can enjoy at Edgewater Park.

From the farmers market, venture to Memphis Kiddie Park, which has served as a Cleveland landmark since 1952. From kiddie rides like a merry-go-round, ferris wheel, and the Little Dipper roller coaster to miniature golf and more, this amusement park is designed for family fun.

In the evening, you can ride bikes through your neighborhood or, if the temperatures are warm enough, put on bathing suits, turn on the sprinkler, and run through the refreshing water.

You can also browse through this list of 2024 festivals to find ones in the Cleveland area. From food festivals — chocolate and cheese, anyone? — to annual arts and crafts events, there’s no shortage of fun stops to make!
