Our South Elyria Center is conveniently located near Elyria High School. It has a 5-Star Rating from the State of Ohio's "Step Up To Quality" Program.

Our South Elyria Child Care center hours of operation are from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Program Highlights

Our South Elyria Center is a Head Start Collaboration. A 21st-Century grant offers free before and after school care for Hamilton students. TANF tutoring is offered as a free program, and free half-day preschool is available.

Students can participate on the Jaguars basketball team and the cheerleading team year-round. There are also year-round clubs for STEM, gardening, cooking and more. Football is available in the summer.

Other perks include a Parent Cafe and monthly themed family nights that include dinner.

Nikki Perez

Center Director

EDUCATION Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from Lorain Community College

ABOUT Nikki has been working in the education field since 2004. She has worked with various age groups throughout her career. Her passion is being a support for her families and children in her community. Her favorite quote is, "If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be." - Maya Angelou. Nikki is also the site coordinator for Southside Pride.

Patricia Smith

Site Coordinator

EDUCATION: Associates of Applied Business in Criminal Justice, Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, Brown Mackie College

ABOUT: Born and raised in Lorain, OH, Patricia enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduating high school in 2000. She was a Water Treatment Specialist, serving a tour in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and later received her Honorable Discharge from the service. Patricia is a mother of three with a heart filled with love. "I joined Horizon to make a difference in others' lives today to make a better change for our world tomorrow!"

Davyana Harris

Business Coordinator
EDUCATION: Associates Degree in Applied Business Office Administration  - Ohio Business College

 
ABOUT: Born and raised in Lorain Ohio. I have two beautiful girls and a soon-to-be husband(Sept 2023)! I have worked with Horizon as a Preschool teacher Assistant and I am now the new Business Coordinator at South Elyria. I enjoy meeting new people and being a part of seeing the kids grow day by day.

Cara King

EDUCATION: Master's Degree in Education from Grand Canyon University; Bachelor's Degree in Special Education from Cleveland State University

ABOUT: When Ms. King was in high school, she enrolled in an early childhood program that inspired her to become a teacher. The children at the center keep her on her toes. She enjoys watching her kids thrive and succeed at everything they do.

Latoya Washington

Lead School Age teacher

EDUCATION CDA (Child Development Associate) Certificate; GED from John F. Kennedy High School and has a school-age endorsement through the Ohio Child Care Resource & Referral Association

ABOUT Ms. Latoya started off as a floater and worked with every age group in the South Elyria education center and moved up the ladder becoming a lead school-age teacher. She loves working with the children and enjoys completing the cooking lesson plans with them.
