That's right! Horizon's programs in East Lorain and The North Ridgeville Middle School both won competitive statewide awards at the annual Afterschool Summit in Cincinnati. The awards are presented by 21st Century Community Learning Centers, a part of the Ohio Department of Education. 

North Ridgeville Middle School

North Ridgeville Middle School's afterschool program recieved the award for Best Performance in Service Learning. The program offers karate, culinary

David Smith and Dawn Marflake Receive a 21st Century Award for the North Ridgeville Afterschool Programarts, science, Lego robotics, art, and media/technology. No doubt they won the award because of the excellent students and staff.

East Lorain

East Lorain's Afterschool Program received the award for Best Performance in Positive Youth Development. Center Director Gail Rottari stated that she was "honored to accept the award on behalf of East Lorain Horizon Education Centers.  The youth in our program really deserve the credit for all of the great work and dedication they put into our afterschool program.  I am privileged to oversee the choices they make and the progress they achieve!" 


Executive Director David Smith said that "
These  programs are fine examples of the high quality afterschool programs Horizon provides in Lorain and Cuyahoga Counties.  We are grateful to our partner schools and the Ohio Department of Education that funds these programs.  We are excited to receive these awards." Horizon Education Centers is proud and honored to receive these competitive statewide awards from the 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
