Mr. Dave's Special Visit to Parma

At Horizon’s Parma Community Center, our Preschool program follows the Creative Curriculum, which encourages hands-on learning and real-world exploration. One recent study focused on conducting interviews, and our preschoolers took it to heart!

Led by Ms. Megan, the class decided to interview someone very special: Executive Director of Horizon Education Centers Dave Smith. Ms. Megan introduced Mr. Dave with a photo and explained that he’s the person who helps make sure our schools run smoothly — and why we all get to come to school each day!

The children were excited to imagine how Mr. Dave might answer their questions. Here’s what they came up with:

Mr. Dave Interview — According to Our Preschoolers

What is Mr. Dave’s job? To keep us safe

What is Mr. Dave’s favorite color? Green and orange

What is Mr. Dave’s favorite food? Hot dogs

What is Mr. Dave’s favorite season? Winter

Where is Mr. Dave’s favorite place to go? Somewhere with chili dogs

What is Mr. Dave’s favorite movie? Finding Nemo

What is Mr. Dave’s favorite animal? An elephant

What makes Mr. Dave happy? Corn dogs and chili dogs

What makes Mr. Dave sad? Onions

To our preschoolers’ delight, Mr. Dave made a surprise visit to our Parma center October 8 — and yes, he brought hot dogs, as well as gifts, for all the children! The children were thrilled to meet the person they had been learning about, and their smiles said it all.

Why Leadership Visits Matter

Having Horizon leaders visit our classrooms and engage with students is more than just a kind gesture — it’s a powerful way to build connection, trust, and community. When leaders like Mr. Dave take time to participate in lessons and engage our children, it shows that every role in our organization is united by a shared commitment to learning, safety, and joy.

These moments help every child feel seen, valued, and inspired — and they remind us all why we do what we do, one hot dog at a time.
