Horizon and Girl Scouts Team Up for Cookie Success and Skill Building

This past month, Horizon Education Centers proudly partnered with the Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio to bring Girl Scout troops into 13 Horizon locations, creating a meaningful opportunity for girls to learn, grow, and lead right where they learn every day. As part of Horizon’s Afterschool Club Programs, a dedicated teacher at each participating center completed Girl Scout training and became a troop leader, guiding the girls through hands-on experiences focused on confidence, teamwork, and real-world skill development.

March brought one of the most exciting parts of the Girl Scout year—Cookie Month. Each Horizon center set an ambitious goal of selling 150 boxes of cookies, and most centers met or exceeded that goal! The troops, typically made up of 12 to 18 girls, worked together to run cookie booths hosted right at their centers. Two to three girls rotated through each booth at a time, taking on roles such as greeting customers, keeping sales tallies, setting up displays, and packing cookie orders with care.

Some booths were set up just outside center entrances, others right in the doorway, creating welcoming spaces for families and visitors to support the girls. Our Cascade center even hosted their cookie booth at a Lorain County basketball game—giving the girls an exciting, high-energy experience and exposure to a larger community audience.

The results were impressive. Two centers sold nearly 500 boxes each, and together, all 13 Horizon centers sold approximately 2,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies! More importantly, the girls gained valuable skills in customer service, teamwork, responsibility, and confidence—sweet rewards that will last far longer than cookie season.

Through this partnership, Horizon Education Centers and the Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio demonstrated the power of collaboration in creating enriching experiences that enable young girls to shine.

A huge thank you to Quality & Program Coordinator Kathy Thome for leading the Girl Scout Cookie Drive and keeping everything so well-organized! Your dedication and hard work mean so much to the Girl Scouts of Horizon and Horizon Education Centers.
