The Dewhurst location in Elyria, one of six in Lorain County, holds a Five-Star Rating from Ohio's "Step Up To Quality" Program, offering free preschool scholarships and transportation for school-aged children.

Program Highlights

We develop language and literacy, as well as social, emotional and physical skills. Our staff members guide their students with various teaching methods that are based on recommendations from the state of Ohio, including:

  • State Standards
  • State Assessments
  • Individual Learning Plans

Horizon Education Centers focuses on kindergarten readiness and school-age enrichment, and we're a proud partner of the Ohio Healthy Programs, which ensures your children have healthy food options daily. 

Each of our centers has a toddler playground area, preschool playground area and school-age playground area.

Kelly Rolen

Center Director

EDUCATION Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Baldwin Wallace

ABOUT Ever since Kelly was 5 years old, she dreamed of becoming a teacher. Working with children is her passion, and she believes that kids are our future. 

Ashley Knight

Business Coordinator

EDUCATION Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education from Bowling Green State University

ABOUT Ashley has been in the early childhood education field for 13 years. Her favorite thing about this profession is building positive and trusted relationships with students and families. She looks forward to providing excellent customer service skills to all Horizon families.

Brook Glass

Lead Gym Teacher

EDUCATION: Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from Lorain County Community College

ABOUT: Ms. Brook has always had a loved for children. She babysat when she was younger and enjoyed taking care of children. She has also taken extra classes to earn her Afterschool Program Certificate.

Olivia Pfeifer

Lead School Age Teacher

EDUCATION Associate degree in education from Lorain County Community College, pursuing bachelor's degree in early childhood education 

ABOUT Ms. Olivia believes in unlocking the potential in every child. She looks forward to making a positive difference in their lives at Horizon.

Misty Tyree

School-Age Lead Teacher

EDUCATION: Currently working towards her Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education with Special Needs at Grand Canyon University.

ABOUT: Misty loves working with children and has been in the field since she was fourteen years old.  She loves that every day working with children is a new day and no day is the same.
